Sage grouse plan seeking comments

by LEE JUILLERAT, Herald and News 1/2/14
A public meeting on the Bureau of Land Management’s drafter Environmental Impact Statement dealing with sage grouse will be at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 13, at the BLMFremont-Winema National Forest Interagency Office in Lakeview.

The Lakeview session is the last of five public meetings being held in eastern Oregon on the draft Oregon Sub-Regional Greater Sage Grouse Resource Management Plan amendment/EIS. At the meeting, people can review the draft EIS, maps and other informational materials, talk with project team members and submit written comments on the project. Meetings are also being held in Prineville, Burns, Ontario and Baker City.

The draft EIS has six possible management alternatives for maintaining and increasing habitat for greater sage grouse on BLM lands in Oregon. The BLM has about 10 million acres in Oregon that provides greater sage grouse habitat. The decisions in the plan apply only to BLM administered lands, not private property.

The draft is available at  http://on.doi.gov/H9Ne1    or  http://on.doi.gov/I26YQt .
