Modoc County Department of Agriculture Grower Checklist
May 2018 Recordkeeping 1. All chemical labels and Safety Data Sheets need to be available to employees. 2. All A8, A9, and N series need to be filled out and available to employees. 3. All pesticide use reports, Restricted Materials Permits, PCA recommendations, Notice of Intents, and bills of lading need to be available at all times. 4. A board with application notices need to be posted. Needs to include field, start & end times, chemical material, and date. 5. All records need to be kept for 2 years. Safety Training 1. All employees need to be trained every year. Mandatory. 2. All handers, applicators, and equipment repair people need to be train and understand hazards with chemicals being used. 3. All fumigation products on the US EPA list now need a Fumigation Management Plan, and/ or Work Site Plan. 4. All employees need to understand labels and SDS. 5. Applicators may (depending on product and label requirements) need to have an applicators license and/or supervisor with license present during application. 6. All employees have access to Personal Protective Equipment. 7. All employees understand how to use PPE, store, and clean PPE. 8. If employees are using respirators there need to be a respirator program. 9. Medical Supervision – Blood test are required for employees who handle organophsophat or N- methycarbamate pesticides with Danger or Warning signal words in a 6 day period of 30 days. Storage of Pesticide Chemicals 1. All chemicals need to be locked up. 2. All containers need to have labels. 3. All chemicals should be stored by pesticide type. 4. All leaking containers need to be destroyed. 5. A decontamination facility needs to be located near chemical area. 6. A spill kit needs to be available. 7. There needs to be a safe and clean changing area. Application Safety 1. All handlers/applicators MUST HAVE 3 gallons of water per person, eye wash (16oz water bottle), gloves, googles, soap, towels, and coveralls. ( Must be clean) 2. All handlers/applicators MUST have a Fit Test (to have sure the respirator fits) and Medical Evaluation. 3. All handlers/applicators must have paperwork at site if required by chemical label. 4. Fumigators must have FMP, Work Site Plan, PPE, Labels, Tank Label, Field Posting, Training Records, and Emergency Response Plan. 5. Emergency Response Plan need to be post. 6. All employees need to have an emergency contact list. 7. Tanks need to be labeled and locked when left in field. 8. All containers must be picked up and correctly disposed of. 9. All fields’ location near a School must notify the school in April of any chemical applications and submit a chemical list to the school before application. 10. Danger chemicals require employees to have contact with employer every 2 hours. 11. Post is required if stated on the label. Websites and Reading Material 1.
